Why use to Rogowski Coils?
Rogowski coils are used as current sensors in power systems, particularly in applications where traditional solid-core current transformers (CTs) are not practical. This may be because of space constraints, difficulty of installation, or the need for a non-invasive sensor. Rogowski coils are also used in applications where fast response and high accuracy are required, such as in power quality monitoring or fault detection systems.
Compared to traditional CTs, Rogowski coils are more flexible and can be easily installed around existing wiring or conductors without disconnecting them. They are also lighter and less bulky, making them easier to transport and install. In addition, Rogowski coils have a higher frequency response than traditional CTs, allowing them to accurately measure higher frequency current transients.
How to Install Rogowski Coils?
Rogowski coils are typically installed by wrapping them around the conductor of interest. The installation process can be broken down into the following steps:
Identify the conductor to be measured: Rogowski coils can be used to measure current in a variety of applications, such as power distribution, renewable energy, and industrial automation. The first step in installing a Rogowski coil is to identify the conductor that needs to be measured.
Prepare the conductor: The conductor needs to be cleaned and any sharp edges need to be removed to avoid damaging the Rogowski coil.
Install the Rogowski coil: The Rogowski coil should be wrapped around the conductor, making sure that the coil is evenly spaced and tightly wound. The coil should be secured in place using zip ties or Velcro straps.
Connect the coil to the measuring device: The output from the Rogowski coil needs to be connected to a measuring device, such as a data logger or oscilloscope, to record the current measurements.
Calibration: Rogowski coils require calibration to ensure accurate measurements. Calibration involves comparing the output of the Rogowski coil to a reference standard, and adjusting the coil output if necessary.
