A Rogowski coil, named after Walter Rogowski, is an electrical device for measuring alternating current (AC) or high-speed current pulses. Different from the traditional Current Sensor, there is no metal (iron) core. The winding density, the diameter of the coil and the rigidity of the winding are critical for preserving immunity to external fields and low sensitivity to the positioning of the measured conductor.
Eastron's ESCT-RC series are flexible current transducers based on Rogowski principle, particularly suitable for measurement in combination with portable devices. They are available in different sizes and can be supplied according to customer's design, therefore they can be used in all those applications which traditional transducers are not fitting due to its size and/or weight. The Rogowski coils provided with a shield against the influence of external magnetic fields, grants it a stable measurement from low currents to hundreds of kA.
